Stealth Commuter May 06 2013

Hand-delivered a brand new bike to Ming today at lunch - great way to start to the week! It's an urban single-speed with track spacing in the rear and clean buildup by Ryan Bontrager. Special thanks to Jason Grove for the fabrication effort as usual.

So last month I decided (I was talked into) building up a CX bike. Not for racing, but for some fun mixed-terrain kind of rides. My co-worker and friend, Patrick Keller connected me with the folks at Ritchey Bikes, and not long after, I had this sexy thing in the garage bike stand. I bought a used Jamis CX just for the components and now that bike will be built for my other co-worker, Erik Homsapaya. Needless to say, I have some pretty cool colleagues. Thanks to Mike Ahrens for the sweet deal on the wheels!

By the way, it rides like a dream!

WiseCracker CX prototype February 09 2013

My newest bottle opener, the WiseCracker CX is in the works.
Cheaper than ENVE's $550 Speedvagen stem, this simple headset spacer weighs 25 grams, costs $25 AND it opens beers. By lengthening the original WiseCracker design and adding an M5 Barrel Adjuster, front canti-brake routing should be clean and tight. I may adjust the geometry for smaller frame sizes where stack height is more critical.

I need product testers - hit me up to get on the list!

TITANIUM WISECRACKER BOTTLE OPENER HEADSET SPACER, ONLY WORKS WITH LIGHT BEER

Ahrens Cycles, which offered up the WiseCracker bottle opener in the form of a headset spacer, is now making it available in a sub-10 gram weight 6/4 titanium version.
They’re machined from a solid sheet of Ti, bead blasted, then etched with their logo... As Mike Ahrens says, they’re lighter than some alloy spacers that don’t have any special skills.

Ahrens Bicycles is proud to offer the WiseCracker bottle opener in 6/4 titanium. This is the latest edition to our family of unique bicycle-mounted bottle openers. Here are some images of the design and manufacturing process:

WISECRACKER SEATPOST AND HEADSET SPACER BOTTLE OPENERS
Wisecracker is a clever little bottle opener. It comes in versions to mount to your seatpost, workstand or downhill fork stanchion. Why?
“Because beer can’t open itself.”
